Singing Resistance Central Coast (SRCC)
Join our local chapter (“pod”) of the national movement of resistance singers, inspired by the original Singing Resistance group in Twin Cities Minnesota (IG @singingresistance) which began in January 2026 as a nonviolent protest response to I.C.E. in Minnesota.
Singing Resistance is about protecting and caring for our communities in the face of rising authoritarianism. Our Sonic Activism gatherings will take place throughout San Luis Obispo County at protect-our-democracy rallies, protests, marches, and community gatherings – gatherings to rise up in solidarity for social change and justice, promoting democracy, diversity, inclusiveness, support, kindness, and compassion for one another and our planet. We are grounded in love, nonviolence, and solidarity.
Learn simple songs and chants with us. Join us or lead a group!
Whether at a rally, community gathering, or contemplative action, these rhythm and song-based experiences are designed to uplift, unite, and inspire positive action for the common good.

Historical Sonic Activism for Social Justice
Throughout history, music and collective singing have served as powerful catalysts for transformation. They:
-
-
-
Promote a strong sense of unity and shared identity
-
Elevate hope and courage in the face of injustice
-
Amplify marginalized voices and truths
-
Build empathy, resilience, and resolve
-
Create a soulful pathway for nonviolent resistance and healing
-
-
From the Civil Rights Movement’s freedom songs, to the chants of El Teatro Campesino during the Farmworkers Movement, to today’s grassroots mobilizations including Singing Resistance—sound has always been a bridge between hearts and justice.

Let’s Co-Create for Change
Together, we can raise our voices, rhythms, and hearts in service of a better world, beginning in our own communities throughout San Luis Obispo County.
